Rutherford ATHENA Award Program Announces Patrons Nontraditional Scholarship For 2025

Rutherford ATHENA Award Program will bestow a scholarship during the 2025 ATHENA award ceremony. In celebration of the Rutherford ATHENA Awards Program's twelfth year of existence, the program will be awarding up to $5,000 in scholarship money to deserving women returning to school later in life.

The ATHENA Non-Traditional Scholarship” will be awarded to a Rutherford County woman who is pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree later in life. See official rules on rutherfordcable.org. Among other requirements; each applicant must complete a 300-word essay describing how they have embodied ATHENA’s characteristics of wisdom, strength, and justice in their own life and endeavors.

Applications, essays, and all required information must be uploaded and submitted online by due date TBD. 

Applicant Eligibility Requirements

 Female

 Be a graduate of any high school or have earned a GED

 Have been out of high school for five years or longer

 Be a student in or an applicant for admission to any associate or bachelor’s degree program

Previous recipients are NOT eligible for the ATHENA Non-Traditional Scholarship

 Have a letter verifying enrollment or completed admission process no later than due date TBD. 

 Scholarship recipient will be notified on in April. The recipient will be invited as a special guest to the Patron’s Society Reception, and will be recognized at the ATHENA Award Program Luncheon.

Application Process

The application and copies of all of the documents listed below must be submitted electronically by due date TBD before the application will be considered complete.

To complete the application, four (4) documents must be submitted to ATHENA@rutherfordcable.org.

  1. Two letters of reference on official stationery focusing on academic potential, leadership abilities, need, and worthiness of the student may be a) A former teacher or supervisor or b) A person who is familiar with the student’s potential to be successful in a program of higher education. Have them send directly to ATHENA@rutherfordcable.org.
  2. A copy of the high school transcript. If you have attended college previously, a copy of your college transcript
  3. A copy of the letter from the college or school verifying completion of application materials or admission no later than Date TBD.

ABSOLUTE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATION: TBD
Applications received after the due date will not be eligible for consideration.
